Sarabeth can be blamed for igniting my fascination with recapped toons back in the '80s (yes, I'm that old). She became a near dear friend after we met through Cathy Slavik, publisher of the now defunct Empathy Press. Some may recognize one of SB's older non-de-plume's, "Sally Willows", an homage to the classic TG novel "
Turnabout" (1931) by
Thorne Smith and the same-named 1940 movie directed by Hal Roach (with John Hubbard & Carol Landis). Note that the 'Tim' character is also an homage to the other title character.
We exchanged mail (no Web) for a long time, and was the first person I know of who dabbled in toon re-captioning. Don't know for sure what all her sources were, but a major one was a late 1960's) adult comic magazine published in the late 1960's. Some of that original art is available @
ComicStripFan .
Sara also dabbled in TG-theme writing, including a couple of unfinished co-authorships with me and others. But, to my knowledge has never gone public with anything other than these toons which she gave me permission to post on my Yahoo group back when I first launched. Since she's gone out of touch, I hope that she agrees with my decision to move her funnies to TGCaps where the audience is (IMHO) more appreciative of her work, dated though they may be.
She's been a wonderful friend for many years, one of the rare people whom I have met personally who shared my enthusiasm for the TG genre. Sadly, we've had no contact for some time, and she was considering giving up our 'hobby', but I know she's out there and hope she knows that I'm still thinking of her with great affection. I pray that she is well and happy.
