As the creator of the cover (a TG version of the first Evil Archie I ever did), I'm always pleased when someone is inspired to write their own take on it.

That said, I can't help feeling a bit -- disappointed. It's a nice little story, true, but I conceived the cover as the main crux of a story, not the final ending. In true evil twin fashion I imagined Dilton becoming Betty (whether accidentally or deliberately) and then after sampling Betty's life electing to make his imposture permanent. And Betty discovering late in the game there's an exact double of her running around Riverdale claiming to be the REAL Betty.

"A twisted tale of DNA duplicity" as the cover hints. In that context the story reads like a prelude abruptly cut off. That doesn't diminish its charm (as a 6-page backup in clean form I could see Archie Comics actually publishing something similar) but I can't help wanting to read what happens next.

I suppose it's just the gripe of a semi-retired captioneer. I shouldn't throw stones when I haven't written actual prose myself in many years. If Dr Otto reads this, I hope he doesn't take offense at my criticism but instead thinks seriously about extending his story and giving us a sequel. I for one would be very grateful to read it.

It was good. A little too short. There could have been more, where the new Betty discovers who she was, and does she want to go back or remain Betty #2?

Tebra some time ago did a very good take on Dilton becoming a double of Betty using her DNA. He liked it so much he used his DNA to turn Betty into him - saying there can be only one Betty Cooper * it'same. " He also turned Big Moose into Veronica & Veronica into Big Moose. Yikes.

By the way I meant to write 'Pretty good' & only wrote 'pretty' on my review.

I vaguely remember the Dilton as Betty images and another (I think) where Hot had become Veronica and was in the process of changing her into him. These wouldn't happen to be posted or archived anywhere by chance? I don't think I ever saw one of Veronica as Moose.

As far as unretiring admittedly I have started to feel the urge again. Esp to continue the Dilton as Veronica (several of which were never posted here). Nothing like looking at a beautiful Veronica clone with Dilton glasses and evil arched eyebrows to -- ahem -- stir the imagination.

If anyone has or can point me to the Tebra images mentioned in this thread, I'd be grateful.

Hi Eva, Dr. Otto here. I'm sorry that my adaptation of your terrific cover didn't live up to expectations, but I designed the story to be almost exactly like an average comic of ARCHIE - short and sweet.

Personally, I have more fun conceiving the buildup (i.e. the transformation itself) than speculating about what comes afterwards. I don't think I'll be writing a sequel, but I love that I received feedback from the mastermind behind the caption itself. Cheers!
