This is the cover package for an old computer game.
The mod wasn't much but I thought it might be fun to share.
I'll post the original for comparison.
Hope you enjoy it.

Not bad for a game that was 8 bit porn.
Glad you like it.

Not bad at all Tristra. I would suggest though that if you aren't able to match the font and color to just replace all the text in that section when able to.

Are you talking about the yellow text or the gradient?

because the yellow it a perfect match using a color picker and the gradient is the original letters

the reason the yellow doesn't match perfectly is because the package has faded some creating an uneven texture.
I would have recolored the the text that was there but I feel it would have bleed to much and left me with puffy rough edges and near illegible text.
Due to the fading of the original text to get a near match I washed out the color I picked from the original.
I kept what I could because I didn't want to have to reconstruct to much of the background.
This is just something I grabbed and did before heading to work.
You may have noticed that rather than cut out the text I didn't want, I used the smudge tool to basically rub it out.
My font is a real close match but there again it is off due to fading and print differences between 1992 and now.

As far as the Cobra/Cora I just copied the Co pasted it over the b and swept all the extra bits under it before blending the edges. all with the smudge tool.
So the gradient is off a little because the B is not filling in the middle. I feel it doesn't stand out much because of the sharp change in color in Mission.

Thanks for the feed back.

With that kind of cover it's extremely hard to replace text. I pulled the original down and played around with it. Because the background color dissolves into the guy's hair and the girl's dress, it's almost impossible to replace the bg, which is pretty much what you'd need to do get replace the yellow text, and so far as the bg goes, the mod is excellent.

The work on "Cora" looks almost seamless to me. The jump from the whitish to the reddish between the "o" and the "r" is noticeable, but I think it's totally excusable. If you don't know the original, you wouldn't know if it was an artifact of the modjob or a feature of the original.

On the yellow text, though, the replacement of "impersonate" does jump out. It jumped out at me. Part of it is that the font IS different. It looks like you used something from the Arial or Helvetica families for "impersonate," but the original font looks a lot more like Futura. Check out the differences between the "a" in "Impersonate" and in "Private," "Investigator" and "Beauty." It's almost subliminal if you're not looking for it, but it really sticks out once you see it.

It is also sharper than the original. What software are you using? In Photoshop, I'd rasterize the new text and then use the Blur filter to take the edges off a bit. You might have to turn the brightness on the text color up before rasterizing-blurring, to compensate for the darkening that the Blur filter puts in. You might also blur the "Trista Gyopsic" at the bottom. It's also a little too sharp.

This are just niggling observations. I think technically you did a superb job. Only the font issue sticks out on close inspection.

The font was the best I could find in the 15 minutes I took to make this.
Most of my fonts are on my other OS which at the moment is on a flaky drive.

I used GIMP, Photoshop is way to pricey for what you get in my opinion.
And you are right about the blur on the text that's the way to go on the yellow text but I'd have to be careful with the name in the corner it would easily become illegible.

I'm thinking about revisiting this and seeing if I can find another font that fits better.
but for the moment I'm OK with it.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!

OK now that the A has been brought to my attention I have been compelled to fix it, but none of the fonts with the closed round "a" match enough and the few I have stand out even more than the font I used.

I've been swimming through sites finding lots of great fonts but am coming up short when it comes to my goal of that A.

Any help would be great,
just a specific font name would be great.
I know it's a Sans font but I'm coming up short in all other aspects.

Bleargh. It looks like Futura is not easy to find as a free download. That is the one I used when I played around to find a good match. (See attached.) It's not quite perfect, and that's even after I had to play around with character and horizontal spacing, and with the line weight. If the original art did use Futura, they may have used one of the ... dozens or even hundreds ... of variants on that font that are out there.

That's the same problem I had.
The A is to open, to me that stands out more than the different A did.

Other than the A and the O being to open that is a near perfect match, thanks for the font name I'll hunt around and see what I can find.

nice match on the color by the way.

Well, my obsessive compulsive nature has reached it's limit.
I have sorted through over 7500 fonts and still haven't found a satisfactory match for me.
So Thank you all for your comments and your help.
but before I pull my hair out I'm moving on to other projects.

Again Thanks for the help I enjoyed making it (even with the font frustration), and I hope you all enjoy it.

OK, This started as a simple share but now it has a squeal.
I made this one from a few different pics and I redid the text from scratch.
I think the title turned out pretty good.
I still need to feather the edges of some of the text but you can't tell as much as the other.
Don't know who the girl is that I used but the guy is Nickolas Wolfwood from Trigun everything else is me.

This even got me curious enough to download the old Cobra Mission game and play it a bit.
I don't like it. but the package has made me happy for now so it wasn't a waist.
