Caption format issues...

I moved this item over from the other forum:

To the entire captioning community: Making even small format changes to a caption can make a big difference in readership. The harder a caption is to read, the fewer people will read it. Think about all the blogs out there with captions whose text is really hard to read: text that's too small; text that's fuzzy; text color that doesn't stand out from the background color (for some or all of the text); text with shadows; big blocks of text not split into paragraphs. I'm not going to point a finger at anyone, but readability is a big problem for a lot of captions. It's unfortunate, but them's the facts.

(By the way, I'm not talking about the work showcased here on TGCaps; these captions prove that attention to detail and readability can produce high-quality results.)

It's disappointing that no one responded to this (on TGComics). Is my point simply so obvious that it doesn't merit discussion? Or am I a lone voice in the wilderness?

Excellent point!! There's a lot of good work out there that is beautiful and wonderfully inspired, but can be incomprehensible if the reader cannot decipher the words. It's very reassuring to note the good products that we contribute to TGCaps. Personally, I've always taken great care to ensure that the words can be easily viewed, and thank you for your encouraging compliment. It's nice to know someone out there views our work as 'high-quality'.

And to all who read this, I believe in the quality of our product. So if you ever see something I've done that doesn't quite meet the quality standards that are espoused @TGCaps, please...please...let me know and it will be rectified.

Just make sure that the comments and even critiques keep coming! We do what we do to entertain ourselves AND others, but it's much more difficult produce and share in a vacuum of indifference.

Indeed it is. I feel the same way when nobody (other than Suedenim) comments on my modified covers... :)

As for caption readability, I think this is very important. Sometimes, in my early days I tried a little too hard to match my new text to the slightly blurry look of an old cover, and ended up with something that was harder to read than I intended. I hope I do better now.
