It's been a long time since I did an Altered Fates cover, so here we are.

There are some covers where as soon as I see them, I know exactly what I want to do with them. My recent Spells R Us cover is an example. There are other where the image strikes a powerful chord, but the right story just doesn't seem to come into focus. This cover is a case in point, and I've been gnawing at it, on and off, for months. I'm still not really happy with it...

That is a GREAT cover, and a great recaptioning for the TG version.

The one quibble I see is that the top text is way too 21st century for the old-style office intercom and the attire. All you need to do is find a 1950s equivalent for the same situation and you're set.

If I'd found that cover first, I would have been just like you and filed it away in my 'got to do something with it, but don't know what' folder. With the secretary's short hair, that cover is begging to be redone as a more 'realistic' TG storyline. ;-)

Doh! I didn't think of that. The "hedge-fund" thing is anachronistic... There wasn't that much hostile take-over activity in the 50's. Perhaps I need to think again. I agree about the short hair thing, but though I racked my brains, I couldn't come up with a good "realistic" scenario.

Why don't you keep the top text fairly simple (e.g. "It was just another day at the office..."). Remember that the cover is just the teaser to get someone to buy the comic.

I agree with SoCal. The dialogue works by itself (and is great). No need to explain ALL the details of how the guy ended up in the girl's body. Perhaps "A Bad Day at the Office" would work as well.

Well, here's my take on a more "teaser" cover. As SoCalSecrets and Femur point out, I don't have to pack the entire story onto the cover, though I will admit I often try...

I prefer this version (and still think that it's a great recap).

I love the title - but still prefer the first versuon as it explains the motivation!

I like the second one, less cluttered and it still gets the story across.

Often, the story longer teaser was on the first inside page of the comic.

Ordinarily, I'm definitely a fan of getting the idea across with as few words as possible, but in this instance I have to say I prefer the first version.

Another go at an Altered Fates cover, trying for something a little bit different...

If Daddy and Aunt Carol are switched, why is the blond calling the man 'Daddy'?

Both are good, sis. And, probably surprising, I like the second version of "Office" better, too. I like GN/BN because one can imagine a lot of different scenarios for why the supposed good news has turned bad.

In defense of lots of text and explanation, though, I would offer that most of the covers we do do not actually sandwich actual stories, so the creators (one of whom's name we won't mention :-) may want the cover to actually tell their versions of what the whole story would be.
