GENDERWAVE

It was the day the world changed forever, the day the mysterious Genderwave swept around the planet, switching the gender of everyone on Earth.

Many of Lorna Samuel's recaps have been set in the world of the Genderwave, and the first Genderwave story can be read at:

It occurred to me today that had they been interested in that sort of thing, this story would've been ideal for one of DC's Silver Age sci-fi comics. And once it had occurred to me, I had to put together the cover for that issue, of course:

Very well done. The cover captures the feel of the stories.

I agree with Andi. Your cover really feels like it could have been a real cover from DC's Silver Age sci-fi comics (miniskirts, and especially the solid-colored hosiery, are soooo late 60s/early 70s). You also did a nice job of seamlessly creating your composite cover. Nice work!

Here's a cover for an as yet only partially written story, 'Genderwave: The Astronauts', which I may finish one day.

Great work BobH, it's so cool you're reviving the GWave. I've gotten the GWave fever with many of my recaps. It's a fascinating scenario that reflects your wonderful imagination.

thanx for the inspiration,

Have to say, BobH, that "The Astronauts" is one of your best covers ever. Great art to start with, and you used it spectacularly well!

Thanks, femur. This was certainly the one that took me the longest. I don't like mixing artists on a cover - it never looks right to my eye (although the Earth came from a Gil Kane cover) - so I had to find a view screen and female figure by Neal Adams that I could drop in, which I did in his late 1960s X-MEN run. Fortunately the male and female on the cover have slightly different eyelines, so he could be looking at the Earth and she at the viewscreen, and the lighting is such that it could be the viewscreen illuminating her and that she's reacting to.

Since Lorna has mentioned the Genderwave universe I figured I'd bring this thread back to the top for, like, about the five minutes it'll stay there. For those of you unfamiliar with the Genderwave stories, these covers describe the basic set up fairlu succinctly.

Eleventhdr - right enough, but what about all the women perfectly happy as women forced now to live as men? That would be a hell for them, oh and I suppose some men might not like being women.

If you read the stories, you'll see that gradual acceptance is part of the mental adjustment built into the premise. It is, however, a bit unpredictable and there are those for whom it doesn't 'take'. This situation is explored in the stories.
