If you'd ask me when I had first started doing comic book cover modifications if I thought that I'd ever do a mod of a Gold Key comic, I'd probably have hedged my bets and said "highly unlikely" even though I would have been thinking "never".

Well here's my first Gold Key mods. I did these mostly because the title turned into a pun in the TG version (I couldn't resist that!). The originals are The Close Shaves of Pauline Peril (Gold Key, 1970) #1 & #4.

The GCD credits Jack Manning with the artwork and as co-creator of the short-lived comic book series. As far as I can tell, the series borrows the melodramatic cliffhanger format of the Hanna-Barbera animated TV show The Perils of Penelope Pitstop, but with a female reporter as the protagonist. Jack Manning was also a layout artist for Hanna-Barbera Productions on a number of cartoon shows, including Smurfs and Wacky Races.

In 'The Hairy Case of the Bewitched Wigs', They all look cross eyed.
Maybe their wigs are on too tight! :)

I think that I might end up cross-eyed too if I was wearing a 'bewitched wig'. ;-)

Or maybe his gaff and/or corset are too tight (see the reference to an 18" waist in #1).
