These are from a new exercise for me that's the opposite of my re-title project. I'm trying to find comics that have titles that 'work' in both the original and TG-versions. Then I recaption the comics to give them their TG angle.

The first is My Secret Life #34.

The second one is My Secret Story #29

And here's some info on Tony! Toni! Toné!.

"Blackmailed" is excellent. The title is perfect for TG re-capping.

Thank you, AndiJF.

The main problem that I see with "Blackmailed" is that the second drawing in the bottom right doesn't really have an explanation now. I thought about giving it a thought balloon ("Could he be my blackmailer?") or caption box, but I couldn't think of anything that I thought was any good.

Also, I probably should have changed the "a two-way affair!" at the top, to "a one-way affair".

This time, instead of taking a series that had a title that could have a TG meaning, I took an existing comic and turned the cover into a TG situation. The comic is Wilbur Comics (Archie, 1944) #37.

According to one source I looked at, Wilbur Comics was a second-string comic from Archie Comics that occasionally even used old Archie comics with minor revisions.

I've been wanting to do something with some teen humor comic book covers, but the characters from most of the innumerable Archie comics, for example, are so instantly recognizable that it makes them hard to do a good recap. Quickly looking through some of the "Wilbur" comics, it looks like that series might 'work' for what I want to do. The name Wilbur, however, is going to have to go! I'm thinking of turning the series into something like "Kevin: and his cross-dressing pals". Any comments or suggestions?

Perhaps you could think "outside the box" (*groan*)... Maybe the heroine is being blackmailed for something other than money... Maybe the blonde guy is her agent saying something like "It'll be a disaster if your secret gets out. You'll have to marry him!"...

Here's another recap where I've decided to keep the original title. It's G.I. Sweethearts (Quality Comics, 1953) #32:

I like that one! It's especially nice to see a G.I. T-Girl who defies the stereotype of dressing like a girl to avoid combat!

Thanks, suedenim.

I've already looked a couple of other aspects of military vs. TG life in my clip art captions series, including the scenario that you mentioned (in "Going Undercover" and "Do you feel a draft?"). I'm trying to do my best not to repeat myself. ;-)

In the case of "From bomb squad to bombshell...", it was the original caption that made it so easy to tweak to get a TG reading.

Here's My Love Life (Fox, 1949) #12, recaptioned:

G.I. Sweethearts has some great covers, but it looks like only the one where the hero is an Army gal herself.

Oddly, if you look at the cover gallery, the heroine looks similar in most covers - a girl with red or light brown hair in a red dress. Almost looks like you could make a continuity out of it as a T-Girl works her way through the nation's armed forces!

If you look at lots of the romance comics, especially if you look at several series from the same publisher, you start seeing the same three or four models used over and over. I'd thought about collecting a whole group of those and seeing if I could create a new TG comic book series out of them. The end result would be fun, but it'd be lots of hard work to do it right.

Here's a new recap. It's Fritzi Ritz (United Features, 1949) #03.

The cover is clearly signed by Ernie Bushmiller, who is better know for the daily comic strip with Fritzi Ritz's neice, Nancy and her pal Sluggo. The rather nebbish-looking gentleman placing the sign is Phil Fumble, Fritzi's boyfriend.

I was tempted to re-title this as something like "Transgendered Romance", but decided to stick with the original "Tender Romance" title.

The comic book cover is Tender Romance (Key Publications, 1953) #01. The comic book series only had two issues before it became Ideal Romance, which had 6 issues before becoming Diary Confessions, which then had six issues and that apparently ended the series completely.

Nice one! Good appropriate and seamless mods to the "headline box" in the bottom right as well as the speech-bubble.
