781 - Foolish in Love

Original: Patsy and Hedy, Career Girls comics #98

We know how we'd show up, don't we ... gurls! :-)

782 - Corset magic

Original: The American Magazine, September, 1911

William Howard Taft was, indeed, our largest president, topping out at a bit over 400 pounds, and he did have to have a special oversized bathtub installed in the white House. Interesting story about who REALLY runs things: When Teddy Roosevelt decided to step down after two terms, his choice for his successor (later regretted) was his good friend Bill Taft. With Mrs. Taft present, he offered Bill a choice, "You can either be president or you can be chief justice of the supreme court." Bill answered immediately, "Chief justice" while simultaneously Mrs. Taft answered for him, "president!". The rest is history.
(AFTER his presidency, Taft was appointed chief justice by President Harding, becoming the only one to hold the highest position in two branches of our government.)

783 - Girl lesson #1

Original: The Saturday Evening Post, March 1, 1924

What Momma wants ...

784 - We always get our ... person?

Original: Northwest Romances magazine, Winter, 1955

I notice Smokey the Bear now says, "Only you can prevent wild fires." Wild fires is probably a more accurate term these days, but it just doesn't have the same ring as forest fires to these old ears.

785 - Cabin fever

Original: Romantic Marriage comics, #23

"Getting Sorted" is currently in progress at Big Closet Top Shelf. Erin's a great writer and I highly recommend the story.

786 - Winning by losing

Original: Secret Hearts comics, #65

Is winning worth being miserable? Maybe it's best to redefine victory.

787 - Too late!

Original: Girls' Love Stories comics, #60

I resurrected "Girls 'R' You" from issue 725 because the building and the car in this original were similar to those in that original.

RL inspiration: I've actually had this situation happen to me.

788 - Dad looks like a lady!

Original: An illustration by Earl Cordrey for a story in American Magazine, March, 1943.

Another "family" issue for the lovely Ms. Raven

789 - Conspiracy theory

Original: Bride's Secrets comics, #8

This was inspired by the political phrase "Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy" ... and by thoughts of Charlie Brown, Lucy, and the football.

790 - Only a motion away

Original: Pictorial Romances comics, #19

This was inspired by Paul Simon's song, "Mother and Child Reunion"

"No I would not give you false hope
On this strange and mournful day
But the mother and child reu-nion
Is only a motion away, oh, little darling of mine.
I can't for the life of me
Remember a sadder day
I know they say let it be
But it just don't work out that way
And the course of a lifetime runs
Over and over again" ...

BUT IT DOESN'T HAVE TO!

Someone should flesh out "Mother and Child Reunion" as a Fictionmania story.

Jezzi! You and GrimG are rocking the old-school bad ads.
I vote for 858B. I'm glad you grabbed one, I thought they would make some very funny recaps.
All ten were excellent.
