741 - Boys just wanna be gurls

Original: "Girls out of Hell", Falcon Books #28

"I tell ya, Joe; I'm glad it's our time of the month again - yeah, a whole weekend to get away from the old Ball and Chains; sheesh, mine's on the rag right now. Yours' too? Well, hell, let's get down to the bar and hoist a few! ... What are you gonna wear? Your strapless turquoise? Ooh, you're gonna look just yummy! I thought my pink number with the black lace trim, an' those cute matching heels that came for me yesterday. We won't hafta buy a drink all night!"

742 - Royal pain

Original: Patsy Walker comics #103

It's GOOD to be The Queen!

743 - Releasing his inner princess

Original: Romantic Story comics #41

For the Marsupial Lodge, Platypus chapter, the coming members' talent show night would certainly be different from previous ones. The female of the species is more deadly than the male.

744 - Sissy soldier

Original: "Night March", a painting by Harry Schaare, 1958

A story circulating in 1861 had Abraham Lincoln sneaking into Washington for his inauguration as president of the United States disguised as a woman (to avoid assassination), and another story, circa 1865, had Jefferson Davis. President of the Confederacy, seeking to escape Union capture by dressing as a woman. If it's good enough for the rival presidents, I guess it's good enough for my poor Confederate soldier sometime in the middle of The War.

745 - Poor connection

Original: "Girl on Phone", illustration for an unidentified story, Jon Whitcomb, circa 1950s

This was inspired by all the "Boy sent to a Gurl School" stories.

746 - Soul change

Original: Film Fun Magazine, May, 1923

This was inspired by The Force from Star Wars. Plus the boy looked somewhat effeminate, like the spell of The Femme was already starting to work.

747 - Puppet Mistress

Original: Heart Throbs Comics #96

I think it's a particularly sadistic touch for the mistress to force Ken to ask to be called Barbie :-) BTW, I mean no disrespect to Oprah; I think she's a class act.

748 - Uncashed reality check

Original: fashion illustration from The Englishwoman's' Domestic Magazine, 1869

Can you imagine a young man successfully hanging on to his masculinity dressed from the skin out in Victorian clothing? Like these two, though, I suppose you might be able to talk the talk, fooling yourself long after you were unable to walk the walk. My use of these Victorian illustrations for this and previous covers was/is inspired by Chrissie LaFemme's story, "TV Summer Camp" (Section Two: The Story of Kenny). It's at the usual sites.

749 - Campfire gurl

Original: Falling in Love comics #51

Actually Vaingirls doesn't have a summer camp ... yet. Vaingirls does have a relationship with Seasons House though and VG founder Joyce Hall and Jane Thompson have become friends. (See my story, "I'm Baaack!")

750 - Say yes to the dress

Original: Falling in Love comics #31

I love Bridal covers. For a cross dresser, (O.K. for ME :-) the desire to wear a wedding gown, that most feminine of feminine garments, is often incredibly strong. If one has been watching his fiancé picking out hers, I've thought, living vicariously through her might not be enough. But what if ... I think this story is one that should be written.

Thanks V and edriano.

For the design I use four apps - Color It!, Comic Life, Printshop, and Appleworks (paint subprogram) - to modify the original cover. As for the text, I taught 8th grade for 37 years and doing so drove me crazy.

I love The Bride Groom. It's such a classic "caught" cover image.

I'll second what Andi said. It's a classic concept. Although I can't help wondering how he ever thought he'd get away with dressing up under those circumstances, especially looking as convincing as he does! :-)
