Hunting Season

Original:  Elite Styles magazine, January, 1917

“The Season” was the time of year during the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries when proper aristocratic families (known collectively as “The Ton”) scattered over England moved to their London homes and put their single daughters on the marriage market in a series of balls, concerts, park outings, etc.. This was run by the mothers of eligible daughters – the predators – and of eligible sons – the prey.
