It's been hard trying to come up with some good ideas for some of the images from the earlier decades. For example, I keep looking at the very colorful outfits from the 60s thinking that it should be easy to come up with something, but my mind just goes blank.

I finally came up with something for the fashions from the earliest decade: 1900-1910. My original idea was to create something with a pun on 'dress rehearsal'. That idea, however, will have to wait for a different decade and a different play.

When I saw that two of the four images I wanted to use had the models holding bouquets, I thought that they looked like they might have received the bouquets during a curtain call.

You could always read Jet Dream for inspiration!

Here's another from the early 20th century. In this case, 1925 (a Louiseboulanger evening gown and wrap).

Here's one more using the Dover clip art books, but I seem to be running low on ideas for using the images from that series of books. It may be best to set them aside for awhile, and then go back to them to see what new ideas I can come up with.

Since I was running out of ideas for the Dover Publications clip art, I decided to go through some of the clip art that I have from various programs, such as Corel Draw, as well as some cheap clip art CD-ROMs that I purchased several years ago.

I was rather disappointed. Although some of the clip art would be good for advertising or newsletters, very little of it looked like it would be good for creating TG-themed clip art captionings. The other problem was that much of the artwork had a very '80s feel to it (with many of the people in them looking like they were cast extras for the Dallas TV show. ;-)

Here are the three that I came up with. [For "On Broadway...", it's actually a revival of "La Cage aux Folles"). ;-)]

And very stylish he looks too. Virginia Prince would have been proud of him...

Thank you, Mary Anne. They were lots of fun to do, and much easier to do than a recap or re-title. ;-) You should try one (perhaps with the image your icon is from).

Are there any of my clip art captionings that you thought worked especially well?

Are there any that you thought didn't work as well?

I was worried in the last one that the reference to Transvestia was a too obscure pre-internet reference. I was glad when at least one person 'got' it (thanks AndiJF).

I liked a lot "The Men's Dress Reform Party and See Dad"

The others are great too, such as Unofficially...and Ready for the Convent?

I tried to do something with commercial ads and I'd love to know your opinion.

Just an idea...why don't you post some images with no caption to let us try what to write?

Thanks for your reply SoCal!

Perhaps a bit long-winded? ;)

I hope SoCal don't mind if I use these drawings to try a pair of captions.

No, I don't mind.

I think that both Mary Anne and AndiJF have shown interesting takes on the images that I've used.

AndiJF's may be a bit long-winded for a caption, but it reads almost like a short-short (aka flash fiction: very short fiction, often written to specific lengths), except that it pretty much requires the image, so in that sense, it's like a fiction haiga (the combination of art and poetry as a Japanese art form).
