I thought I'd try an experiment to see how quickly I could recaption a cover. This one took less than ten minutes to modify. The big thing seems to be keeping as much of the original dialogue as possible. The original reads: "Why don't you answer him? Don't you want to go back to him?"
Using MSPaint (yes, the little application that comes with Windows) I copied the first three letters of that first "don't" and pasted them over the first "him". Then I moved the final "him" further along and dropped in a "being" I'd lifted from another cover. It's a bit darker, unfortunately, but this proves how easily these can be done. The real work comes in making new titles for these comics, as femur has done on his own excellent recaps, something I haven't done here.

With all that wood grain, this one would be a tough to slap a new logo on, but it's possible with a lot of work ;) .

I like how adding ONE WORD can make a cover TG. Very nice example.

To be hypercritical, that one word looks slightly smaller than the rest, and looks a slightly darker black. But hey, I only really noticed if AFTER you told us which word you added, so, as I said, it's hyper-criticism! ;)

I think this cover makes an intriguing story. Kinda unusual. Mysterious. Well done, BobH!!!

This is the sort of thing I've actually found rather easy to do with Paint Shop Pro's "Clone Brush" tool. With that, you essentially copy parts of the wood that aren't covered, painting that texture over the letters. Making the grain line up perfectly would be difficult, but getting it to look good enough without close inspection wouldn't be too tough. The guy's hand would be tricky, though, so I'd want to make sure the logo covered much of it.
