The referenced character, Vladimir Zucco, first appeared as a scheming "quick change artist" in No. 48. Subsequent appearances include Nos. 174 (modcomic) and 480 (modcover). In the 1940s and 1950s the character even got billing in pulp paperbacks, including Surgery for Sissies and He Made a Man Out of Me.
